  • For how long to do you let the exception go for? one year? another five years? Who is to say they have gotten offers and kept turning them down because they want more. There is no way to know this. In this market that house could be on the market for another 2-3 years.

  • And if someone else in the community was trying to sell their home and could document that noone is buying because there is a child in the community and they are not following the HOA rules, they could sue the HOA for damages and force the HOA to buy their home.

  • Ed, you have no understanding of an association. You buy into a community fully understanding the rules and regulations you are buying. This community has a rule that states no children are to reside in the community.

  • Nowhere in the video does it state what you are implying and if he meets the requirement of being over 55 he is allowed to be there. The video also states they new they were in the wrong and have been fighting it for five years.

  • I am on an HOA board and I have had to make tough decisions that affected one person for the good of the community. You agreed to the rules(signed a contract) when you purchased your home. When you start to bend the rules to allow for exemptions you create a slippery slope that can lead to chaos.

  • icstars1- I do have health insurance and it only cost me $80 a month. So using my totally plucked out of the air numbers (estimates) with just modest personal responsibility many more people could afford health insurance.
